With sadness and broken hearts, we announce that Monika Emilia Cherian passed away on March 17, 2017, at the age of 75. Monika was a nurse by profession and a talented artist. She enjoyed creating stained glass, embroidery, cross-stitching, knitting, sewing, quilting, and folk art projects. She was also an excellent cook, and kept a beautiful garden. She was a caring and compassionate philanthropist and will be remembered for her charity work for the Lisaard House, and for her much-valued membership in craft groups at the Allan Reuter Centre and the David Durward Centre. Monika will be lovingly remembered by her husband George, daughters Joanne and Kirsten (Pam Shime), granddaughters Aurora and Amaya, and her brothers Henri (Francoise) and Jean (Susan). Monika was predeceased by her sister Ursula and her parents Heinrich and Nelly Baumann. Friends and relatives are invited to Monika’s Memorial Service on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Saint Luke’s United Church (1620 Franklin Blvd. Cambridge, ON) at 11:00 a.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Red Cross, or Lisaard House.
