Mona Jessie Smith

It is with great sadness that we announce that Mona passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Lisaard House in Cambridge at the age of 87. Beloved wife of 64 years to Ronald Jack Smith and dear mother of Kim Smith (Kenn Thomas).

Predeceased by her parents Sydney “George” Slade and Jessie Alice Slade, and one brother John “Jack” Slade, all of Dorset, England.

Mona and Ron emigrated to Canada in 1956 and have made Cambridge their home ever since. Mona was an avid reader and knitter. Her legacy will live on in the many beautiful sweaters she created over the years. She was also a passionate animal lover, especially of dogs, whom she always referred to as her “favourite people.”

We wish to thank the many dedicated doctors, nurses, PSWs, and volunteers at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Freeport Hospital Palliative Care, and Lisaard House who showed us such care and compassion over the past year. Thanks also to Mona’s friends and neighbours for their visits, phone calls, cards and prayers.

As per her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service, and cremation has taken place. In memory of Mona, donations to Lisaard House, The Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation, or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
