Melvin Llewelyn Rose

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Mel on Wednesday, June 14th, 2017 in his 67th year. Mel is the beloved husband of Julia for 43 wonderful years, loving father of Jason (Yelena), Eric (Caitlin) and Peter (Kenin), proud Grandpa to Eryll, Ian, Olliver, Beatrice and Atticus, and dearest brother of Mable (Richard), Reg (Rita), Wayne (Kim), Daphne (Lorne), Clarence (Effie), and Graham (Jeannette). He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Having been born in Brigus, Newfoundland, Mel loved and took great pride in his home province. Always keeping busy, Mel was working as a Minister at Westminster United Church of Mississauga where he will be greatly missed by his parishioners, and he was also a member of Wesley United Church of Cambridge. He was very active in the community and a passionate road-cyclist and runner, taking part in many marathons with his running club who affectionately knew him as “Running Rev." Mel was an all-around happy, positive man, delighting in the company of family and friends. As anyone who knows him would tell you, he loved to make others laugh with his stories and jokes. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 17th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Church, 15 Wellington Street, Cambridge, with an hour of visitation beforehand at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow. As expressions of sympathy, donations made in Mel's memory to the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada would be greatly appreciated.
