Joy Elizabeth Novak passed away on October 24, 2017 after a lengthy hospitalization, her family by her side. She fought with strength, courage and grace to the very end. Her sisters Lorna Bulmer and Carol Hartrick visited Joy in hospital daily, supporting her faithfully in her illness. Many relatives and friends, both old and new, came often to see her over the months to provide comfort and support, which Joy enjoyed and appreciated. Joy will be missed and fondly remembered by her sisters and brother-in-law, her many nephews and nieces and their spouses, her great-nephews and nieces, as well as her many friends. Joy was a hard worker, often taking on a second job on weekends in her younger years. She was employed as the bookkeeper at Dana Industries in Cambridge for many years before retiring. In retirement Joy enjoyed gardening, socializing with friends, decorating her home, maintaining her wardrobe and the like, but most of all caring for and enjoying her pets. Joy always had dogs and cats in her home (sometimes two of each). She could be seen daily in Preston, walking her beloved dog Milo, and meeting and chatting with other dog owners, neighbours and fascinated children along the way. As a person, Joy always showed a great interest in other people. She was warm, compassionate, and perceptive, with a quiet and sometimes impish sense of humour. She was always young at heart. Even those who had only an acquaintance with Joy have called her a “lovely lady”. She left us all too soon. Cremation has taken place, and there will be no formal service, as Joy wished. A celebration of Joy's life will take place at a later date.
