John Joseph Byrne, aged 60, left us unexpectedly – but surrounded by love – on Wednesday, April 9th 2025. A cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, John lived a life full of joy, laughter, and unwavering love for his family.
John leaves behind his heartbroken wife and best friend Mary Byrne, and their three cherished children Meagan, Anthony and Cassandra. Also mourning John are his siblings Jim (Marie), Karen, and Jacqueline (Frank); his mother-in-law Germana; nephews and nieces; and a far-reaching circle of friends.
He is now reunited with his parents, Mary and John Byrne.
A lifelong fan of the Montreal Canadiens, John bled bleu, blanc et rouge. Win or lose, his love for the team ran deep - he could always be found cheering them on, proudly wearing his Canadiens gear. But his greatest joy came from being in the stands, cheering on his own children at their hockey games, soccer matches, and figure skating performances. John showed up for his children consistently, always their biggest fan.
John had a legendary sweet tooth and could never resist a good snack or strong coffee – preferably both at once.
What truly made John unforgettable, though, was his spirit. To know him was to be welcomed like family. His circle of friends and acquaintances stretched far and wide, and he always seemed to somehow run into someone he knew from someplace or another (much to the bemusement of his family). John was friendly, easygoing, and had a sharp, goofy sense of humor that made him the life of every gathering. A natural joker, he knew how to make people laugh, and could brighten a room instantly.
It is not easy to put into words what the world has lost with the physical absence of John. But not a bit of his spirit has been lost, and it will live on in every Habs game (Olé!), in every sweet treat, and – most of all – in the love he gave so freely to his family.
John’s family would like to thank the Care Coordinators from Ontario Health atHome, PSWs from CarePartners, PSWs and nurses from ParaMed as well as the team from Cambridge Palliative and Frail Elder Care Associates for all their support.
John’s family invites all who knew and loved him to join them in celebrating his life. A visitation will be held on Wednesday April 16th, from 6:00 – 9:00 pm, at T. Little Funeral Home.
A Funeral Service will take place on Monday, April 28th at 12:00 pm, at St. Ambrose Church, 210 South Street, Cambridge.
