Helen was born on June 12, 1912, in Guelph, Ontario to her parents William and Emma (Cutting) Binoski. She died peacefully at her home in Cambridge, Ontario on Thursday, October 6, 2016, in her 105th year. She is survived by her loving son Joseph W. and his wife Shirley, grandchildren Rev. Michael Downey, Richard (Margaret), Joann, Dave Shane, Robert (June), Jeff (Anita) and Joe (Jan), great-grandchildren Tom, Karen (Trevor) Brohman, Stephen (Julie Anne), Leanne (Chris) Simkin, Jill (Sheldon) Foley, Mike Byrne (Heidi), Dan Byrne, Jaime, Christie, Megan and Emily, great-great-grandchildren Ayla, Elise, Elijah, Evelyn and Sophia. Also survived by her many nieces, nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph H. Downey, sisters Dorothy Elliot and Leona Munns, brothers, Joseph and Ralph Bennings, granddaughter Kathy Shane and grand son-in-law Gary Frolander. Helen was a lifelong resident of Cambridge. She was a retired, longtime employee of Savage Shoe, Cambridge. Family and friends will be received at the BARTHEL FUNERAL HOME, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge N3H 3J8 on Monday, October 17, 2016 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Parish prayers will be recited at 8:30p.m.. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Clement’s Church, 745 Duke Street, Cambridge N3H 3T7 on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.. Cremation to follow, inurnment of cremated remains will take place at a later date at St. Clement’s Cemetery, Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Society or St. Clement’s Church would be greatly appreciated by the family.
