A gentleman and a scholar.  

I thoroughly enjoyed Ed's company over a few pints and he will surely be missed.

I met Ed in high school when we were both in our freshman year. 

Eddy was always full of energy, humour and spirit, and loved to introduce others to the beauty he saw in each day: whether eating a good meal; catching a sunrise or sunset; going camping; biking through the Don Valley trails; skiing through the woods; or walking to almost every destination in the city in his shorts and hiking boots, he appreciated all the gifts that nature offered, and I am so grateful for the many things he introduced me to. 

He was a steadfast and loyal friend who always made his opinions known clear as day. Although it was sometimes hard to hear, he usually had the pulse on most important matters. 

Later on in life, we would see each other from time to time and even if months had passed, it would seem like no time had passed at all. These last few months were very difficult, knowing that he did not have much time left. Yet he acted stoically and made every effort when he could to show how much he valued his many close friends. We were due to meet just last week for a gathering with friends.

It was truly an honour to have known Eddy, a wonderful and loyal friend to so many of us.  I will cherish the times we spent and will miss him dearly.

I knew Ed during our high school years through my brother Alex. I remember his kindness, gentle nature and generous smiles with great fondness. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

Ed was one of our closest friends, and we will miss him greatly. Smart, funny, very personable, and intensely loyal, he was easy to like and so had a wonderful network of friends that was always growing. We had the good fortune to share many adventures with him - canoeing and hiking across Ontario's parks (Algonquin and Killarney were a favourite), and climbing the mountains in Norway's Jotunheimen - and were inspired by his outdoor exploits in New Zealand and Europe. He was passionate about everything he did, and this passion carried many of us along with him. We are grateful for the time we spent together, and will remember him always.

So saddened to learn of Ed's passing--I have wonderful memories of him from our time together at Western Law. In particular, I recall stories and smiles about our Slovak parents, shared with much love and affection for them. I always valued the honesty and openness he showed me.

I met Ed through my daughter, Elisabeth, and her group of friends. Several years ago Elisabeth and I were walking in Yorkville in Toronto when this huge stretch  limo pulled up beside us. The window rolled down and there was Ed  asked us where we were going. We hopped into the limo he was driving and and got a ride home.It was my first and until now last ride in a stretch limo and I remember Ed and his friendly face offering us a ride. I too offer Ed's family my deepest condolences and in particular to his parents. I cannot imagine something worse than losing one of my children.

I have known Ed since 1987.  We both played violin in the school orchestra – well, we pretended to play violin anyway.  We went to high school together.  We became great friends – together with a group of great friends.  We would eat – a lot.  Those years were spent exploring Toronto's good and cheap restaurants.  These included Chinese restaurants in Chinatown, all you can eat Indian buffets on Gerrard St., or all you can eat pizza Mondays at Pizza Hut. 

Although we went to different universities, we remained good friends. In the summers we would continue our culinary tours of the city.  Or we would frequent places like the Brunswick House or the Madison.  Sometimes we would just hang out at his place and grill some steaks or eat his mom's soup and drink his dad's German beer.  

We both became lawyers.  Ed completed his articles at a firm where my wife, Erin, articled. He gave Erin relationship advice – in the course of giving her advice he asked her, “what's the name of the guy you're dating?”.  When he found out it was me, he promptly called me to give me some really good advice.  I don't remember it specifically but it was something like “Jeff, you'd better step up your game”. 

I am feeling Ed's loss quite deeply.  We had dinner in Cambridge only two weeks ago.  He ate four times as much food as I did.  He was so happy to be living with his brother MIke, sister-in-law, Trish, and his two young nephews.  I was in disbelief about his diagnosis, probably because of the courage and magnanimity he showed in the face of it.  Ed was an original.  He was one of the most caring, daring, generous, and fiercely loyal people that I have ever met.  I will miss Ed terribly.  To Ed's family I want to offer my deepest condolences.

My most sincere condolences to Ed's family on his recent passing.   I met Ed during our high school years, and we spent many good times together that I will always treasure, including numerous camping trips and summer BBQ's.  I will always remember Ed for his loyalty, honesty and his voracious appetite.  May he rest in peace and always be remembered in the hearts of those whose lives will be richer for having known him.

I met Ed when we started high school. We were part of a bigger group of friends who are still in touch today. I have so many great memories of parties at various people's houses, camping, etc. Ed was possibly the only guy I knew in high school who insisted on escorting his female friends home, even if it meant huge detours (this was all on foot, after all!). Truly a gentleman, even then, and always thinking of others.

I feel fortunate that I was in Toronto this summer just after Ed received his diagnosis. We had lunch in Cambridge, and true to his nature, he was taking the news with such fortitude that I was, and still am, amazed at his strength of character. Over the past months, his emails still shone with his humour, despite everything.

Ed was unique, always telling it like it is, refreshingly honest and direct, and an incredibly loyal friend. I will really miss him. I wish I could be there to say goodbye on Sunday. I will certainly be there in spirit, thinking of his family and friends, and most of all remembering Ed.

My deepest condolences to Ed's family and loved ones. Ed was a vibrant, giving, boisterous, and vivacious spirit who touched many lives and who will be sorely missed. I was very good friends with Ed in high school and although life took us in different directions I will always be grateful for the time we spent together and the opportunity to reconnect with him before his passing. A beautiful soul gone much too soon. Rest in peace, Ed. With much love.

I am shocked and saddened at Ed's passing. I remember Ed's cool laugh and his sharp intellect. My sincere condolences and deepest sympathies go out to his surviving loved ones.

Ed Tenki was a great inspiration to me and I want to thank him for all the smiles he brought to my face and the adventures he shared with me. His short life is a good reminder to everyone to live the days we have to the fullest, making them fun and meaningful!

I had the pleasure of knowing Ed at Western law school where we shared a lot of laughs, played the odd game of squash and talked about things more important than getting a job at a law firm. I remember Ed being always so upbeat about everything and keeping things in perspective. He seemed wise beyond his years. My deepest condolences to his family.

I am so very very saddened to hear this news.  Ed and I were classmates in law school at Western and we were roommates while on exchange in Brisbane, Australia. Ed's wit, integrity, patience and kindness will not be forgotten.  I did not know that he was battling cancer and feel so sorry that I did not have the opportunity to see him during the last few years and provide support.  My sincerest and deepest condolences to his parents and brother and family.  I know he truly prioriized making you all proud.  I am sorry travel commitments will prevent me from attending the service.

Only the good die young Eddy, I will miss you my friend.

So very sorry to hear of Ed's passing. He was a colleague at Foster Townsend and always knew how to make me smile. His capacity to laugh, argue and eat always amazed me! Rest in peace, my friend. My thoughts are with his family and friends.

I had the pleasure of meeting Eddie through my daughter Trisha and her husband Mike. I became Eddie's Mother-in law too ,ironically. Yes that is how he introduced me to friends, doctors etc. So, in retrospect I gained another son for a very short 4 years. 
Eddie was so much fun; He was always up to something and keeping me on my toes. He was a man full of compassion love hope and dreams. He was an awesome Uncle to William and Charles.
He never complained through his illness he was determined to keep moving forward. Planning  for tomorrow and his next excursion. . He had hope. Great Hope!
 Eddie was one of kind.
Sadly the disease shortened his life and travel for Eddie will never be again.
