Passed away peacefully on March 25th, 2010 at Lisaard House, Cambridge, in her 84th year, with her loving family at her side. Vera has gone to join her best friend and the love of her life, Bill (1997).
Loving mother of Terry Allen (Verna) of Cambridge, Christine Gaetan (Mike) of Bobcaygeon and Elaine Moyes (Gerry) of Cambridge.
Dear Gramma to Nicole (Brett), Dennis (Natalie), Geoffrey (Jen), Lisa (Chris), Brandon (Andrea), Sarah (Matt), Tyler and Carly. Honourary Grandmother to Kirsty and Christina.
Loving Nana to Kyra, Sydney, Grace, Ruth, Brayden, Xavier, Tristan and Heather.
Fondly remembered by her sister Pamela, sister-in-law Elsie, nephews Philip, Peter and Gary, Aunt Carrie and the Coffin and Holloway families.
Vera was a tireless volunteer for many years for several worthwhile causes where she received recognition for her dedication to helping others.
These awards include the Order of Red Cross for her work with the Canadian Blood Services at Blood Donor Clinics and fund raising events, she also received the YWCA Woman of Distinction Award and the Commemorative Medal marking the 125th Anniversary of Canada’s Confederation.
Vera was a past President of the Stroke Recovery Association of Cambridge and an active member at St. John’s Anglican Church.
Cremation has taken place, arrangements entrusted to Barthel Funeral Home. At Vera’s request, in lieu of floral tributes, Memorial Donations can be made to the Canadian Red Cross, Stroke Recovery Association of Cambridge or Lisaard House.
The family would be honoured to welcome friends and family to a celebration of Vera’s life at St. John’s Anglican Church, Queenston Road, Cambridge on Saturday, April 3rd, 2010 at 1:00 pm.
The family would also like to express their sincere appreciation to the Medical Day Care and the 5th floor staff at Cambridge Memorial Hospital as well as the entire staff at Lisaard House for their care and compassion during Vera’s time of need.
