Yvette was born in Pine Falls, Manitoba on March 11, 1933. On October 31, 1951, she married Bill (William) Waite. Soon after she started raising her family in Flin Flon, Manitoba raising her three daughters, Susan, Sheila and Karen and their son Bruce. She retired to Kelowna, BC and revelled in her ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
On March 11, 1933, a cute little doll with very fair skin and dark hair was born. Her weight was 5 pounds and a few ounces. Yvette was so quiet, the story goes that her dad had brought her to his blacksmith shop, sat her on top of a barrel, and forgot about her and went back to the house. When he realized that he had left her behind, he ran back to find her still sitting on the barrel.
Yvette loved life, was always happy, and had a positive outlook on life. Some would say she was a prankster. She started painting in her thirties but raising her family and working as a baker in the Flin Flon Hospital and moving into a role as a life skills advisor, she couldn’t keep up with it. However, in retirement in her new home of Kelowna, she took up the brushes and became a prolific oil painter. She shared her artwork and loved that people loved her work.
Yvette was always active whether it was fishing with her young kids, playing cards with friends, playing the spoons and singing with her sisters, walking several miles to the community pool in Flin Flon to swim, mountain biking with Bill in Kelowna or shooting pool or playing shuffleboard in her last home in Calgary, she embraced life.
Everyone would agree Yvette was a great cook and baker. Her chocolate chip cookies were a desired staple for so many.
In her retirement, Yvette revelled in spending time and taking care of her many grandkids and great-grandkids. The love and happiness she showed them was unmistakable.
Yvette’s first language was French growing up in the community of St. Georges. Even in the last few months she was teaching and sharing French with the staff at her retirement home.
Yvette was a devout catholic and loved the church, especially Mother Mary. Saying the rosary was an important part of her life. Her faith sustained her and brought her peace throughout her life.
Yvette is survived by her husband Bill; daughters, Susan Coles (Ron), Sheila Lee (Loren) and Karen Laird (Ovide Huberdeau); son Bruce Waite (Tiffany); grandchildren Carmen Deller (Leon), Kimberly Sorenson (Steve), Cassie Dewdney (Andrew), Karen Oun (Souk), Jared Laird (Sophie) and Hailey Laird (Nick Carr); great-grandchildren Alyssa Graham (Alex), Darian Ceisla, Ryland Ceisla, Blake Sorenson, Ashlyn Sorenson, Brianna Dewdney, Kalee Maier, Dawson Maier, Spencer Oun, Brooklyn Oun, Cipher Baptiste, Hendrix Baptiste and Willa Laird; and her sisters Lillian, Aline, Dorothy and Sylvia.
