Young, a beloved husband, father and grandfather was born in Guangzhou, China. He graduated from Guangdong University of Technology in 1962 and worked as a structural engineer and professor in his home city. He met and married his wife Li Ying Chu in 1966 and they, along with their three daughters, immigrated to Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada in 1981.
Young and his family moved to Calgary in 1989 where he moved into business, taking over the Square Pizza Factory. He retired 15 years later and enjoyed life travelling the world with his daughters. He was very social and enjoyed going for weekly coffee and dim sum with his friends.
Young is survived by his eldest daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter: Donna, Sammy, and Olivia Ng; middle daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter: Linda, Rene, and Abigayle LeFranc; and youngest daughter, son-in-law, and grandsons: Cindy, Kyle, Orion, and Gryphon Lund. He is also survived by his sister, Chu Pui Tsing, many nieces and nephews in China, and his close family members: Maureen Chu, Steven Chu, Karen Mah and Charlene Kwan and family.
He was predeceased by beloved wife, Li Ying Chu.
Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at a Visitation to be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
Interment will follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
