Yanina Kernick (nee Cirankewitch) passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Saviour on Friday, September 7, 2018 at the Southwood Long Term Care Centre. Yanina (Nina) was born in Poland on November 10, 1920 and immigrated to Canada with her parents and younger brother at a very young age. A sister, Anne, was born after the family had settled on a farm east of Trochu, Alberta, where the Cirankewitch family became well known.
After high school, Nina moved to Calgary and attended Garbutt Business College. Following graduation she joined Imperial Oil Limited where she worked for 38 years rising to be head of the Credit Card Accounts Department. Nina was a dedicated member of Bethel Baptist Church for many years, serving faithfully in many roles. In her younger years she enjoyed skiing and other activities with the college and career group and made many close friendships.
In June 1970 she married her precious husband Donald Kernick, the love of her life, and they moved into the St Andrews Heights neighborhood where she resided for the rest of her 97 years. Donald and Nina loved to drive and spent many happy years travelling together to visit family and friends.
Auntie Nina is lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews: Marilyn Henriques, John (Shelagh) Kernick, Susan (Douglas) Smith, Lurene Spear, Neva (Jim) Bochenck, Sheila (Ryan) Bramlet, and Cheryl Finch, who are comforted by knowing that she is reunited in her heavenly home with loving husband Donald, brother Henry (Bertha) Cirankewitch, precious sister Anne (John) Teibe, brother-in-law Leslie (Florence) Kernick, and sister-in-law Laurel Kernick. She will always be remembered for her generous spirit and support for missionary work.
A Memorial service will be held on October 5th at Fosters Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4th Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) at 3:00 PM with Reverend Jim Atkinson officiating. A private family internment service will be held at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. Memorial Donations may be made directly to Every Home for Christ at www.ehc.org.
