Bill, dad, grandpa, great grandpa and friend, passed away peacefully at Agape Hospice on December 22, 2014 at the age of 94 years. Bill was born in Sceptre, Saskatchewan on July 29, 1920 and lived on the family farm until he joined the air force to serve in World War II. He was a prisoner of war in Germany and following his release at the end of the war, he married Annie (Nan) Gwynne Speight of Morecambe, England, following which Bill and Nan returned to Canada and ended up in Calgary where Bill began his career in real estate and then became a real estate appraiser. Bill was a volunteer with the Rosemont Community Association committee that worked with the City of Calgary to plan and develop Confederation Park and was also an active volunteer with St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church (now Holy Cross Anglican Church) for many years. Following the death of Nan in 1990, Bill retired and was active in golf and curling and with the aircrew and prisoner of war veterans associations. Bill was a quiet gentleman who was loved and respected by all.
Bill will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Emily, and by his two sons, Rodger and David (Corinne) and by his grandchildren, Elizabeth (Chris), Jennifer (Brian), Lorraine (Chad), Joanne (Dreyton), Michael (Melissa) and Peter (Michelle) and his 13 great grandchildren.
