It is with great sadness the family of Captain Valentine de Jesus announce his sudden passing in Calgary, Alberta on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at the age of 70 years.
Val was born on February 14, 1949, the 5th of 12 children. He immigrated to Canada in 1970.
Val studied at the University of Manitoba in the prerequisite program for nursing. He later moved to Edmonton to complete self-supported studies at the University of Alberta.
Val joined the Canadian Air Force and served as a trauma nurse for 20 years with the medical team until his retirement in 2002. He was posted to many peace keeping tasks and was assigned to various Canadian postings as a member of NATO Peace Keeping Forces. The assignments included The Gulf War in Kuwait, peace keeping in Bosnia, Mogadishu and Somalia.
Following his retirement from the Military Service, Val worked as an Operating Room Nurse for the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta until his second retirement in 2017.
The love of his life was his pet dog Keenan.
Val will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, caring and loving personality. He was always fond of all his nephews and nieces and was truly an inspiration to everyone near him.
Val is lovingly remembered by his sisters Lou de Jesus, Aurora Guasch, Cora Burgos, Susan Aristorenas (Antonino Aristorenas), Purita Roduta (Victor Roduta) and brothers Manny de Jesus (Jennifer Manuel), Abe de Jesus (Jennifer Manuzon), Angelito de Jesus ( Elizabeth), Dennis de Jesus (Bernadette) and Luisto de Jesus (Nasheba). He is predeceased by his father Rafael de Jesus Sr., mother Julita de Leon de Jesus, younger brother Rafael Jr and Keenan, his most beloved pet dog.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service to follow at 7:00 p.m. held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Tuesday, June 11, 2019.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Ascension Catholic Parish, 1100 Berkshire Blvd NW., Calgary, Alberta on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.
