December 21, 1930 – January 14, 2013
As an answer to prayer, Ursula passed away peacefully at the Sarcee Hospice in Calgary, AB on Monday, January 14, 2013 at the age of 82 years. Ursula was born in Raspenau, Silesia on December 21, 1930. She was orphaned at age nine and raised by her Onkel and Tante. After becoming a refugee she worked as a farm hand. Later she worked in the Velbert hospital, first in the laundry and then in the kitchen. Her friend convinced her to immigrate to Canada, seeking greener pasture. Ursula began her life in Calgary working as a domestic. While attending English class she met Fritz, with whom she spent the next 57 years. Daughter Ingrid was born in 1959 and Karen in 1963. Ursula was always "sehr fleissig" - gardening, processing the fruits from the garden, cooking and baking. She enjoyed the opportunity to help with her grandchildren, as well as singing in the church choir and going on camping trips, especially to Raduim Hot Springs. She is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband, Fritz; daughters Ingrid and Karen Kubke (Roland) of Stony Plain, AB, and grandchildren Lukas, Willem, Marion and Jakob. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 66 – 7 Street N.E., Calgary, AB on Monday, January 21, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. The Family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of the Sarcee Hospice for the care and compassion show to Oma during the last three months. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
