Theresa Marie (Brun/O’Brien) Congdon was born at home on September 21, 1927, in Shemogue, New Brunswick. She was the 8th child of 12. Theresa (Terry) was the loving wife of Bernard Parker, who left us way too soon in 1969, and mother to Brian (Kathleen), Theresa, Rick (Janet), Lee (Bobby), and Vivian. They, as well as her remaining siblings, Georgie Hackey and Jean McArthur, 8 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, will miss her very much.
Terry grew up and went to school in Shemogue up to grade 8, as that was the highest they could go. They used slates in school since they did not have pencils. At 16, she worked as a translator for her brother Gerald’s wife Lorraine, translating from French to English. She also worked in a lobster factory in Halifax. Terry met Bernie in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and later moved to Montreal, where they got married. They moved to Calgary shortly thereafter. In later years she worked in the daycare at the Acadia Swimming pool in Calgary.
Terry loved swimming, walking and suntanning. She also loved her ice cream, treats and of course Atlantic lobster. She hardly had any wrinkles due to her regular nightly use of Vaseline.
Terry was a devout Catholic, she even said that if she hadn’t met and married Bernie, she probably would have become a nun.
Terry passed away November 25, 2022 surrounded by her children.
A private service will be held at a later date.
