We have many good memories of parties in the past.  You always came to our annual BBQ.  Serious conversations on markets, gold and money making, laughter and kindness come to mind when I think of you.  I only found out this weekend past and am truly sorry that I could not be there to share in the family's grieve.  You have been taken from all of us long before your time and you will be truly missed.

I was so shocked as I just found out last night October 2nd and am so sorry that I did not attend his funeral.  Steve and I go back many many years.  He was my escort and good friend to many company parties.  His kindness, sense of humour, words of wisdom (sell everything buy gold he used to say - grin) will be sorely missed.  You will be sorely missed by my family and friends.  My thoughts go to out to his family.

To the Legg family,

I first met Stephen on the first day of University in 1970; Stephen & I were both starting our studies to become geologists - myself right out of high school and Stephen after I think 2 years of traveling the world, where he met Julia in Australia if memory serves. We've managed to keep in touch over the years, though I've been in Vancouver for the past 25 or so. I will remember Stephen very fondly, saddened by his loss.  He was very much an individual - 'his own man'.  He had a wonderful smile, a real sense of adventure,and an easy going accepting way.  He was amazingly artistic and creative, and he had a great love of rocks and especially fossils. Way back in 1970, Stephen had designed his own TV 'remote', predating contenders by perhaps a decade.  It consisted of a toggle switch on the end of wire connected to the TV, which enabled him to turn the sound off during ads.  It was a sign of genius.  I will think of him fondly always. Our sincere condolences and best wishes to Julia and his children.

Dear Parnell, I am sorry for you to lose your Dad in such a tragic way.  He will always be such a big part of you and after awhile memories of him will come back and make you laugh.  Comforting hugs to you are being sent at this time. I will see you at your Dad's service.

I last talked to Stephen on Saturdeay Morning. As usual we talked about gold, silver and useless 'paper fiat currency'. I will miss Stephen's advice and his amusing comments over the phone, on world finance.

My dear uncle Stephen,

Hmmm.....well EXCUSE ME MISTER! It seems like we have a little score to settle. You see, I KNOW you are wearing this 'cat the swallowed the canary smile' lately - knowing that you took victory in the last two scrabble games we played. ENJOY those scrabble paychecks buddy boy, 'cause OHHHHHH, when we meet again I will have my retribution! By the way, I am SHOCKED, absolutely shocked I tell you, that all the words I played were not in the scrabble dictionary. I mean, who knew that medical terms such as 'mitte' were not in the dictionary? Don't feel bad Stephen I enjoyed all those geological terms such as vughs that I challenged you on (and lost). Oh.....incidentally, I noticed that you forgot your scrabble book here. That's a shame..... I would hate for you to become rusty for our next encounter. Stephen, on many occasions you were telling me that God's mansion had many rooms. I would strongly advise you to constructively use your spare time to search those rooms carefully for a replacement dictionary (God's irony is that the dictionary you find is written in Hebrew - on stone tablets)! My cellphone provider is not going to know what happened to my account in your absence. I mean, who else could fill 10 minutes of memory with celebratory gloating after our games together. I will miss getting off work to have my voicemail say "your mailbox is now full....." And Stephen....maybe, just maybe, when I play vicious opponents like Dan you can drop me a little inspiration from time to time:) I learned from the best. We took a wonderful life walk together in the last few years didn't we? My son will grow to know your spirit, values and our memories together. Godspeed my friend. See you soon.

Dear Parnell, Tammy and Jessica, You were so fortunate to have such a great dad as Steve, as were we to have him as our friend.  He was special and will rest in our hearts forever. It's left to you now to carry on his legacy, to stay strong and wise and in good health, which is precisely what he would have wanted.  He spoke often of you and was proud of all of you. Stephen was a great friend to all of us who had the privilege of his many years of friendship and wonderful sense of humor and his love of family and friends.
