Mrs. Wong was born in Guangdong, China. She came to Calgary in April 1952 to join her husband and together they owned and operated the W.K. Restaurant until 1972. She was a longtime member of the Yee Fung Toy Society, Wong’s Affinity Association (Woman’s chapter) and Hong Hsing Music Society. She was well known in Chinatown and always willing to help others. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and was very creative in arts and crafts. Shu is predeceased by husband, Woon Ming Wong and is survived by two sons, Douglas (Lana) Wong of Calgary and Peter (Margaret) Wong of White Rock, B.C.; five daughters, Mabel (Kim) Woo, Karen (Ricky) Jin, Carol (Hon) Louie, Esther (Mori) Kwan, all of Calgary, and Joy (Paul) Yue of Seattle, Washington. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, Marilyn, Christina, Angela, Tanya, Donna, Remo, Joanne, Michael, Alexander, Jacqueline, Jason, and Tiffany plus 18 great- grandchildren. Our family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to the medical staff in the Urology Department at the Rockyview Hospital for all the care provided to our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. We will always remember and treasure all the loving care she received at the Wing Kei Care Centre. We appreciate all the kindness and exceptional care provided by Dr. Gladman, all staff and volunteers. Your care was beyond our expectations. We are truly thankful, grateful and blessed knowing mom was surrounded by such warmth and love during her final days.
A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
