Shirley is survived by her sons, Myron (Polly) and Jason (Ramona); her daughter Sonja (Mark); 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; and her siblings Beryl (Tim) and John (Denise).
Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Everett and Isobel “Jean” Hurd; her siblings, Bill and Merle; and her loving husband, Larry.
Jesus summarized the Ten Commandments to simply say, “Love God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.” Shirley exemplified these teachings.
Shirley loved God by using her talents. Whether it was singing praises to Him through solos, trios, and in the choir, or using her acting skills to play Raggedy-Anne at a Ladies’ Retreat to highlight a key point for the speaker or initiating the importance of daily devotions with her family, Shirley certainly showed her love for God.
Shirley loved others. She enjoyed camping, travelling abroad, playing games like Mahjong and Rook and chatting for countless hours either on the phone or while standing in the middle of the street with friends. She helped to prepare and serve meals at The Mustard Seed and participated in multiple mission trips. She also welcomed numerous family members to live in her home over the years. These are all ways Shirley demonstrated her love for others.
We thank God for Shirley’s life of love.
