Born February 26, 1933 in Melville SK, Shirley moved to Jasper in 1943. While attending Jasper Jr/Sr High, she met her future husband Jim Baxter. Shortly after graduating, Jim and Shy tied the knot on May 15, 1953. A wonderful wife and mother, she raised three children of her own and two foster children. She suffered through the tragic loss of her daughter, youngest son and foster son. Shy is survived by her husband of 58 years, her eldest son, foster daughter, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She was actively involved in her community over the years. She was president of the Jasper Ladies Hospital Auxiliary, raising money for equipment for the hospital and seniors center. Canadian Daughters, church activities, curling, hiking, fishing, golfing and skiing were all part of her life. Sly will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her family and many dear friends.
A celebration of her life will be held at the United Church in Jasper, Alberta on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.
