The feisty 85 year old is survived by Reginald "Reg" Barnes, her husband of 62 years; sons Bob (Lorna), Doug, Duncan and daughter Jo-Ann; granddaughters Amie and Erin; grandsons Michael and Justin and great- granddaughter Sophie. Shirley was born in Regina in 1928 and although she has called Calgary home since 1948 she was always proud of her prairie roots – and a quiet member of Rider Nation. She also loved the mountains and was the happiest in them either at the cabin or in the motor-home with her family. Severe Dementia slowly took Shirley away from us but she remained a caring person with a smile for everyone and was much loved by family, friends and care- givers alike.
A Celebration of Shirley's Life will be held at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Reverend Kobus Genis will lead the Service. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 100, 119 - 14 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6 or the Alzheimer Society of Calgary, 201, 222 - 58 Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB T2H 2S3. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
