October 8, 1932 – July 23, 2015
It is with great love and sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother Sharon Dawn Gislason, at the age of 82 years. Sharon passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 23, 2015 surrounded by her loving daughters and family. She left us to rejoin her husband Don, who predeceased her just over two years ago. Sharon is survived by her children Shawna Lee Garstad, Dawna (Wayne) Scrivens, Patti Perkins, Jody (Jim) Broadhead, and Jacqui (Anthony) Lambert, twelve grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, two sisters, one brother as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Sharon lived a full life which included travel and stops in many towns and cities until she settled in Calgary. She left again for spells in Winnipeg and Phoenix but returned to Calgary where she truly belonged. Savoir-faire and a sense of fashion were Sharon’s trademarks. She was both smart and stubborn, traits which led her to become the first woman Postmistress in Canada, an accomplishment she was very proud of. Her greatest love however, was for her family, which provided both absolute joy and a driven purpose. Always there with a kind word and a ferocious defence, her unconditional support will be missed by all. A Celebration of Life will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
