Sai Deet Lee

Sai passed away peacefully in his loving home on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at the age of 67 years. Sai was born in Guangdong Xinhui, China, where he lived with his seven siblings. He immigrated to Red Deer, Alberta in 1979, where he worked as a cook at a local restaurant.

Those who worked with Sai knew him as an honest, kind, and generous person.

In 1983, he married his wife, Kwan Lee, in Hong Kong. He knew Kwan from China where they lived in the same village and attended the same school. Throughout his beautiful life, Sai and his wife owned three restaurants together and welcomed three children into this world; Judy, Anna, and Carmen.

Sai expressed love and affection for those around him through food. He loved cooking all sorts of Chinese dishes for his friends and family. He took pride in feeding and taking care of his family. Whenever he would receive compliments on his cooking, a bright and happy smile would fill his face.

In addition to food, family was so important to Sai. He would prioritize family time on the weekend by taking his family out to dim sum or planning a trip to the mountains. Sai loved sight-seeing and spending time outdoors. When he lived in Red Deer he took his children to places such as Dickson’s Dam, Sylvan Lake, and ChinaTown.

Second to family, Sai loved spending time at the Casino. He enjoyed playing, watching others play, as well as the relationships he built by being there. His favourite games were Black Jack and Pai Gow. He loved it so much he even taught his girls how to play at home!

In his final months, Sai was home with his wife and three kids where he was showered with unconditional love and care. He created many special memories with his family that will forever be cherished. He passed away peacefully in his own bed, surrounded by love from his family. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends and especially his wife Kwan and children.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. Please feel free to drop by anytime between those hours to pay your respects and visit with friends and family.
