Robert Dewayne Whitney

Bob Whitney, beloved husband of Kirsten (Kris) Whitney of Calgary, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2014 at the age of 78 years. Bob was born and raised in Drumheller, joining the RCAF in 1954. When stationed in Zweibrucken, Germany he met the love of his life, Kirsten Rasmussen while on vacation in Copenhagen, Denmark. He retired from the military after a career that took the family to many parts of Europe and Canada.

In post military life, Bob continued to stay active with subsequent careers at Innotech Aviation and Hostess Frito-Lay.

For the past 17 years Bob and Kris have greatly enjoyed wintering in Yuma, Arizona. Bob is survived by his wife Kris; sons John (Pam), Des (Jacqueline), James (Tammie); grandsons Kurt, Evan and Trent; and oldest brother Pat and family. He was predeceased by his parents Nick and Mable and brother Ronald.

A Memorial Gathering of family and friends will take place at SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate), on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Per Bob’s wishes, memorial donations could be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 – 29 St NW, Calgary, AB T2N 4N2.

The family wishes to say a special thanks to Nurse Donna and the entire team at Chinook Hospice for the great care they provided dad in his final days.
