The son of William Robert Lundy and Annie Gobel (Bayne), Bob was born in Hamilton on July 27, 1921 and raised in Westdale. He graduated from Westdale Collegiate in 1940 and joined the RCAF in 1941. He spent 1942 with an RAF squadron in the United Kingdom before returning to Canada for flight training. The balance of his war service was in Coastal Command, first in the UK and then at the end of the war in Newfoundland. Bob married Mary (May) Lorimer Davidson in May of 1945. May predeceased him in 2012. Bob and May had two children, Beverly Ann Carnahan and William Robert Lundy. They moved to a farm in Carluke, Ancaster township, where they lived until 1968 when they moved back to Hunter Street in Hamilton. For the last four years, Bob has been living in Calgary where his daughter Bev resides. Bob worked for the federal government for 33 years after the war; first with Customs Canada, then the Department of National Defence and finally Manpower and Immigration. He retired in 1978. Bob is survived by his two children, his daughter-in-law, Jill, his four grand-children, Allison, Heather, Ryan and Robert and his great-grandson, Mason. Prior to his illness, Bob was living at the Colonel Belcher long term care facility for veterans. In his final days, Bob’s nursing care at the Foothills Hospital was excellent. He was well cared for and kept comfortable.
According to his wishes, there will be no funeral and his cremated remains will be interred at Woodland Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
