Robert Trent (Bob) Dixon passed away peacefully in Calgary on November 13, 2016 at the age of 85 years following a brief illness. Bob was born June 1, 1931 in St. John, NB and later moved to Ontario with his family. It was there that he lost his father, Hugh Dixon, at the age of 9. His mother, Billie, remarried and relocated the family to Calgary. Bob obtained his education at the University of British Columbia, graduating with a B Ed, B Comm and later an MBA. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and spoke fondly of his time at UBC. It was in Vancouver that he met and married Patricia Rempel and started a family. They returned to Calgary where Bob was very active in the political community, serving on the Calgary Board of Education, and was instrumental in establishing the Stampede City Gyros in 1962 and served as its first President. Professionally, Bob served in many capacities; high school teacher, college professor, commercial realtor, to name a few. Bob was an avid reader and loved his puzzles. His greatest pride was for his children, Herb, Ripple (Don), Holly (Ken), Barb (Shawn), Hugh (Doris), Terry Tout (Debbie) He was a man of few words, but his love for his kids was apparent. He will always be lovingly remembered as “The Shadow” by his kids. Bob is survived by his former wife and good friend, Patti Dixon, 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was pre deceased by his father, Hugh Dixon, mother Billie Haines and step father Cyril Haines. A Memorial service to be held at Foster's Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, November 25, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Donations gratefully accepted at The Mustard Seed, 102 – 11 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2G 0X5 or a charity of your choice.
