Richard Gibson

Richard Gibson passed away peacefully on April 21, 2014 at the age of 80 years. Dick is survived by his son Christopher (Caroline), his daughter Leigh and his 2 grandchildren, Ruby and Benjamin. He was predeceased by his wife Pat Gibson.

Dick was born in Victoria, the son of Captain William and Gussie Gibson. He grew up in Calgary with his brother Bill and his sister Jane. He joined the Navy in 1951, before leaving to attend UBC, then later the U of T in Toronto, where he met his beloved wife Pat. Dick and Pat were married in 1964, then moved to Iroquois Falls and Winnipeg, before settling in Calgary.

Dick collected and stayed in touch with a wide range of friends in the various places he lived and worked. He was an avid golfer, a lousy but enthusiastic card player, and an amateur historian and genealogist. He also had a lifelong love of music, and was at heart a musician and teacher.

His most important and cherished role, however, was as a husband, father and grandfather. He will be remembered for his laughter, sense of humour, his love of food and fine wine, and his commitment to his family.

A Celebration of Dick’s Life will be held at South Calgary Funeral, 12700 Macleod Trail South, (at Lake Fraser Gate) Calgary on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Messages of remembrance may be left for the family at www.southcalgaryfuneralcentre.ca
