It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather Paul Mei Chow Yee, on Saturday, April 25, 2020 in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 90 years.
Paul is lovingly remembered by his wife of 71 years Annie Moon-Yung Yee, sons David Yee (Marie) of Calgary, Tony Yee (Janice) of Edmonton, daughter Marge Nichol (Blake) of Calgary; grandchildren Jonathan, Christina (Mike), Ryan, Taylor, Avery and Michael; and great grandson Jacob. He is also survived by his sisters Hung-Chuen Yee of Toronto, Ontario, Yue-Tei Yee of Kaiping, Guangdong, China and his brother Foo-Kong Yee of Hong Kong, China. Paul was predeceased by his father Fong-Li Yee in 1956 and his mother Gam-Gee Cheung in 1998.
Paul was born in Kaiping, Guangdong, China on January 16, 1930. He married Annie on August 6, 1949 before immigrating by himself to Canada in June 1953 from Hong Kong. He began his restaurant career in Carnduff, SK. before settling in Moose Jaw, SK. in 1958. He was later joined there by his wife Annie and his oldest son David in February, 1965. Paul came to Canada with nothing but the right attitude, a great work ethic, and a strong desire to provide for his family. He worked hard, and he retired after a successful 44 years in the restaurant business in 1997. Paul and Annie then moved to Calgary in 2003. In his spare time Paul liked to go fishing and he also enjoyed playing Mahjong with his friends. He left us as a humble man, and he was greatly respected by his family and friends.
Paul will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all.
A private, family only Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery).
Interment will follow immediately after at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the charity of your choice.
