Nicola Parrotta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nick Parrotta, born on July 28, 1935, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2020 at the age of 84 years surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Albi, Catanzaro, Italy and was the beloved husband of the late Iolanda Parrotta. Nick immigrated to Canada on July 6, 1958, with Iolanda and their two young daughters, Mari and Josephine, following on August 4, 1959. After settling in Canada they welcomed two more daughters into their lives, Frances and Joann, and became life-long residents of Calgary. Nick was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and brother. Family was the most important for him. He enjoyed cooking, baking bread, making cheese, sausage and wine. He spent many hours in his garden and greenhouse. In his earlier years he enjoyed picnics and getting together over a little wine and a good game of cards. Nick was kind, generous, and respected by all who knew him.

He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his daughters and their families, Mari & Don Quast, Josephine Parrotta, Frances & Dean McKinnon, Joann Parrotta & Alex Ritchie; grandchildren and their families, Jacob & Stephanie Quast, Jessica Quast & Taylor Reed, Shane McKinnon, Shanon McKinnon & Shane Squires, and Stephanie McKinnon & Martin Gauthier, his great-grandchildren Alexandra & Julianna Quast, Luca Squires, his brother Fiore (Ada) Parrotta, nieces and nephews, and other relatives throughout Canada, Australia, USA and Italy.

Nick was predeceased by his wife, Iolanda in 2014, they will be reunited at Queen’s Park Mausoleum. He was predeceased by his brothers Domenic, Salvatore, Francesco and Orlando Parrotta.

A Visitation will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Monday, March 16, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.

A Funeral Service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Monday, March 16, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.
