Muriel Ryan, beloved wife of Pat Ryan of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the age of 85 years. She was born in Brownlee, SK on May 27, 1929 to Clyde and Mabel Hart. Muriel had a devoted family and relished in much love and laughter on their homestead. Her strong love of animals was established in childhood. She was particularly fond of horses and dogs. Muriel graduated from beauty school and worked as a hairdresser for one of her favorite people; Mabel Shook. Muriel met the love of her life, Pat Ryan in the same bowling league in Regina. Rumor has it that Muriel would consistently whip Pat’s butt in bowling. They were married on October 15, 1955 and raised five beautiful children: Karen, Kevin, Kirk, Kathy (Kirk Prather) and Krista (Lorne Vaugeois). She quickly immersed herself in the community and volunteered much of her time at Triwood where she found her lifelong friends. Pat and Muriel’s social life often put their children’s to shame. Muriel was famous for her Rooster crow and performed this often at gatherings to everyone’s delight. She reached her element when her 10 grandchildren appeared on the scene. Muriel would put everything aside when she babysat her grandchildren and read them books, took them to Turtle Park; devoting every second to them. She was treasured and loved by each and every one of them: Alix (Ken), Jake, Cassandra (David), Sam (Nicole), Lauren, Nicholas, Wyatt, Alanna, Jenna and Hayden and four great grandchildren Bea, Hadley, Tayllar and Tysenn. Muriel’s philosophy in life was to laugh often, love unconditionally and to wear silly hats. Her positive outlook never wavered despite her long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Bethany Harvest Hills for looking after our Muggins…and if you listen carefully, you will hear the crow of a rooster. A Celebration of Life will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
