Michael "Mike" James McGurk

Michael “Mike” James McGurk passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023, after a short, unexpected illness and stay at the Dulcina Hospice with family by his side. Mike is the only son of James and Kathleen McGurk and is survived by his sister Patricia “Tish” Patterson, and his children Laura Tempeny and Matt McGurk (Kristin). He is also survived by his adorable grandchildren Adelyn and Aylee McGurk, along with many cousins.

Mike was born in Calgary Alberta on April 15, 1948, and lived there his entire life. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School before he continued into the working industry. For work, Mike was a salesman, selling cars, and semi-truck wheels. He finished off his working career as a school bus driver for almost 20 years. As a retired man, he enjoyed going for weekly breakfasts with his friends and long road trips to visit family in Saskatchewan and British Columbia.

We want to thank all the staff at Dulcina Hospice for the amazing care they showed him over these last five weeks.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask people to donate to the Canadian Cancer Society.

There will be a viewing on November 28, 2023, at 12:00 pm, for family and friends, followed by a Funeral Service to celebrate Mike’s life at 1:00 pm- 4:00 pm. This is being held at the South Calgary Funeral Centre and Crematorium at 12700 Macleod Trail SE, Calgary, AB T2J 7E5.

The family will be doing a private interment at a later date.
