Matthew who was born on December 16, 1991 will be sorely missed by his beloved parents Greg and Debra Little, siblings Andrew Little, Cam (Kendall) Little and their sons Jaxon and Evander, and Jennifer (Tyler) Punk. Matthew was a cherished grandson of Russ and Mae Cober, and Jacqueline Turner. He was predeceased by his grandpa Gary Little.
He will also be lovingly remembered by a large extended family, numerous circles of friends, and his colleagues.
Matt was a tenacious little boy who grew into a determined young man, showing perseverance, good humor, and bravery far past his years as he was diagnosed at age 11 with leukemia. This diagnosis would be the start of a lifelong up and down battle with cancer. Matt graduated high school in 2011 with exceptional grades and a huge group of lifelong friends. Matt then went on to graduate with his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary in 2017 and landed his dream job at AltaGas, where he stubbornly continued to work until mere weeks before his passing.
Matt had a love for the outdoors and learning about hunting and bushcraft, whether it be quading or shooting rifles in Waiparous, turkey hunting in B.C., or going on camp canoe trips with his friends. He loved getting to his family cabin in central Alberta and spending the days target shooting with his brothers and dad and taking his nephews for quad rides.
Matt's competitive nature made him a great athlete and he enjoyed playing football and hockey for much of his life.
His final cancer diagnosis in November 2022 led to a life-altering surgery in December. Despite this, Matt remained his spirited, sarcastic, good humored self until his last day, leaving his friends and family in awe of his unwavering strength.
We would like to thank the medical professionals who have contributed to Matt's care at the Alberta Children's Hospital and later Tom Baker Cancer Centre. His family would also like to thank his large support system who made Matt feel celebrated during the good times, and wrapped in love and comfort during the hard times.
A Celebration of Life will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
Donations can be made to the Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta at https://www.kidscancercare.ab.ca/ in lieu of flowers.
