Mary Pankiw passed away peacefully at the Agape Hospice in Calgary, Alberta on Thursday, June 11, 2015. Mary was born on the family farm North West of Duff, SK on September 8, 1929 to Stephan and Annie Stecyk. She married the love of her life, Nick Pankiw on November 10, 1946. Nick predeceased Mary in 1984 as well as her siblings, Peter, John, Bill, Alex, Nick and Katie. Mary is survived by her loving sons, Jerry (Rita), Barry (Jeanne) and Robert (Beata); her grandchildren, Kari (Kraig), Kim (Ryan), Marcus, Amanda (Chris), Sean; as well as her great-grandchildren, Sierra, Chelsey, Kolbie, Madison, Hayden and Weston. Extended family members Sharon Pankiw, Hilda Pelzer, Dana Olchowy, and Tammy Brockmeyer. Nick and Mary took great pride in creating, at their long time home in Melville, SK, a beautiful garden paradise that was often used for weddings and the special city events. After Nick’s passing Mary carried on with the beautiful yard until 2013 when she moved to Airdrie, AB to be closer to her cherished family. Mary was the Manager of Simpson Sears and the President of the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Ladies Aid for over three decades plus participation with the Melville Horticulteral Society. Gardening, Cooking and Baking were her passions. Preparing dinners (perogy feasts) for her entire family brought her immense joy and was the catalyst that created exceptional family unity and priceless memories. Our precious Baba will be sadly missed and forever be remembered as our Special Angel watching over her adoring family. A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Melville Municipal Cemetery in Melville, Saskatchewan.
