It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn Ruth Wurzer, who left us peacefully on April 5, 2025, at the age of 85. She passed away at the Venvi Evergreen where she found friendship and compassion from the residents and staff.
Marilyn was born at the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary to parents John and Lydia and raised with sister Joan and brothers Jim and Fred in Black Diamond and Devon, AB.
Marilyn graduated from high school in Devon in 1955 and went on to earn her Education degree from the University of Alberta. She dedicated 36 years to the teaching profession, working in Edmonton, Devon, and Calgary, where she inspired generations of students with her passion and commitment to education. In her lifetime, Marilyn was fortunate to travel the world, making lifelong memories with family and friends. Her travels took her to destinations such as Hawaii, Europe, Panama, Israel, and various cruises around the globe, where she embraced new experiences and cultures.
Marilyn was known for her boundless generosity, having supported hundreds of local charities over the years. Her kindness and selflessness left a lasting impact on many in her community.
Marilyn volunteered with the Calgary Police Service and the Interfaith Food Bank. Her years of service helped many in need.
Marilyn was also a long-time member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, a testament to her intellectual curiosity and pursuit of excellence.
She is survived by her sister Joan Knudson, and brothers Jim and Fred, seven nephews and nieces and was also a great aunt to 17 great nieces and nephews. Marilyn will be deeply missed by her family, friends, colleagues, and all whose lives she touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held at South Calgary Funeral Centre on April 21 at 1:30pm.
