Man Kai Leung was born in a village in Canton, China in 1931. He left China as a young man for Hong Kong during an economic depression in China. In Hong Kong, our father met our mother who was visiting after immigrating to Canada. After a brief courtship, they were soon married and together they returned to Canada. Our father was in his early 20’s when he arrived to a small town called Lacombe, Alberta in 1957.
Our father met life head on courageously and tenaciously. From surviving the Japanese invasion of China, immigrating to a foreign country and leaving behind everything that was familiar, learning new trades such as operating a laundromat, maintaining automobile engines, and maintaining and operating a restaurant; our father endured long hours of working hard to provide for his family.
Despite these long hours of work, our father ensured his family enjoyed simple family adventures such as fishing, trips to the lake, the drive-in theatre, and saskatoon berry picking to be later enjoyed in a pie.
Thank you dad for your sacrifices and your wisdom. You will be in our hearts and memories.
Man Kai Leung is survived by his children; Julie Ramsay (Douglas), Johnny Leung, George Leung (Alexis Tri), and David Leung (Kim Hyunh), grandchildren; Gordon Leung (Katie), Joshuah Leung (Elyse Kelba), Alexandra Leung (Adam) and Shayla Ramsay, and great grandchild, Henry Leung.
Service will be held on Friday May 12, 2023 at 2 pm at Foster's Garden Chapel Funeral Home & Crematorium 3220 4 St. NW
