Mom’s wish to be with her beloved husband, Norm was realized early Sunday evening with immediate family at her side. She was a Wife, Mother, Teacher and a gentle soul who looked for the good in all she encountered and reached out to help all in any way she could.
Her first teaching assignment took her to Midale, SK where she met Norm and they were married in 1945. Mom left teaching to start a family but resumed her career when she, dad and four kids moved to Calgary in 1959. She fondly remembered teaching at Westgate Elementary for some 24 years until her retirement in 1984. Louretta was instrumental in the formation of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Society in the 60’s in Calgary.
We are comforted that she is now in a happier place. She is nonetheless sadly missed and mourned by siblings Coleen, Marjorie and Pat; children Dennis (Angela), Wayne (Wendy), Norma and Terry (Lyle); grandchildren Michael (Lindsey) and Megan (Dan).
Despite declining mobility, Mom lived independently up to her 92nd birthday and then became a resident of Cedars Villa, Willow Unit where she was treated with dignity and respect. We appreciated and will miss the friendly smiles and support provided by all, especially her “Adwa” and “Saddita”.
At Mom’s request, there will be no service at this time. A family celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Please direct donations to Deaf & Hard of Hearing Society, 63 Cornell Rd NW, Calgary, AB T2L 0L4
