Lillian Mary Luft passed away peacefully at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary, AB on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at the age of 87 years.
Lill is lovingly remembered by her children, Trevor and Deanna Luft, Lloyd and Betty Luft, and Shirley and Peter McArthur; five grandchildren, Gregory Luft, Shannon Powell, Marcey Barrett, and Zachary and Alexander McArthur as well as two great grandchildren, Amanda Luft and Evan Barrett-Neels. She is also survived by her sister and husband, Norma and Eric Steffensen; one step-brother and his family and four step-sisters and families. Lill is predeceased by her partner of 14 years, Joseph Herold, in April 2013. She was also widowed in 1990 by her husband of 31 years, George Luft. She was a true Albertan. Lill was born in Calgary and grew up in Keoma-Irricana area riding horses to school and helping on the family farms. Before moving into the city, she did a short tour in the military and also worked on her family farms. After coming to Calgary she met George at Canada Customs and they were married. Lill’s many interests were driven first by family love, then her many friends whom she loved to entertain and community work. As many know, she loved to travel as well as dance and she continued to enjoy this favourite activity into her 80’s.
