Leslie Alexander Davis, born August 28, 1926 in Canora, Saskatchewan, passed away on February 13, 2015 at the age of 88 in Calgary. Les is lovingly remembered by daughters Catherine (Greg) in Winnipeg, Patricia (Norman) in Beerwah Australia and partner Jean of Calgary. He is also survived by grandchildren, Melanie Young (Martin) and Jennifer Whitfield in Winnipeg, Jeanette and Larena Butler and great grandson Broyden Thomas in Australia, and brother, Gordon (Vivian) of Kelowna, BC. Les was predeceased by his parents Harvey and Florence Davis, and wives Margaret and Elsie.
Les was raised on a farm near Stenen, Saskatchewan. After finishing his schooling Les settled on working for the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1947 and worked for them for nearly 40 years. Les worked in Regina, Winnipeg and then in 1973 was transferred to Calgary Ogden Shops where he worked until 1986. In retirement Les joined Greater Forest Lawn 55+ where he served as President of the Board of Directors for 7 years. Les volunteered in different capacities and enjoyed the dances and pancake breakfasts.
Les had a reputation of being accountable for every penny. If you wanted to find a bargain you would take Les with you. He had a way to sniff out bargains that nobody else would find. Les was an outstanding advocate for seniors in Calgary and served on many committees to fight for the rights of seniors. He was a member of CP Pensioners Club, Royal Canadian Legion, Calgary Senior Police Advisory committee and many more.
Les really enjoyed being a Mason and was a Past Master of Wascanna Masonic Lodge #2, Regina Saskatchewan and a 58 year member of the Lodge. In 1993 Les was recognized for his volunteer work and was awarded the 125 Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada medal. In 2003 Les received the Queens Golden Jubilee Award for community service.
The family would like to thank Les’s good friends Jim and Donna Bergen for all their help over the last few months as we could not have done it without you. The family would also like to thank the caregivers at Bethany Care Home for their care and kindness to Les and family during his short stay there.
A Celebration of Les’s life will be held later on in the spring.
