After a courageous battle with Leukemia, Leona passed away peacefully at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Unit 57 in Calgary, Alberta on Monday, November 18, 2019 at the age of 67. She was born on July 20, 1952 in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan.
Leona’s energy was contagious, and most people would say endless. She was always on the go doing something for her family, friends, coworkers, clients, neighbours and even a stranger. She was passionate through her career as a Realtor through Re/Max which was evident through her dedication, hard work and desire to provide the best service to her customers. Her love for her family and friends always found her baking brownies and other treats at all hours of the night, watching her grandsons play hockey, and granddaughter getting cuter by the day. She loved a competitive game of badminton, shooting hoops with her family and romantic quad rides up the mountains in BC with her husband. Leona and Larry loved being around their family at their favorite place on Mara Lake, where they enjoyed gardening, boating on the lake, camp fires, and of course glass of wine and many smiles.
Leona will be sadly missed by her husband Larry. She is lovingly remembered by her children, daughter Tamara, son Trevor and daughter Lisa and her partner Blain all of Calgary, Alberta. She will always be an inspiration to her grandsons Eric, Easton and Eli and granddaughter Beretta of Calgary, Alberta. Leona is survived by her sisters Ethel of Victoria, BC, Dorothy (Dollard), of Chilliwack, BC, Shirley of Devon, AB and brother Art (Joy) of High River, AB. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Leona is predeceased by her parents Dan and Ina Stubbs of Kelowna, BC.
We would like to thank the nurses of Unit 57 who made her feel loved and comfortable at this difficult time. They were a breath of fresh air and comfort to us. They laughed, cried, had fun, made jokes and discussed the TV show Jeopardy and so much more with her. Once you knew her, you couldn’t help yourself to talk, chat and explore life with her.
If our family and our friends so desire, memorial donations can be made to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre Unit 57 or a charity of their choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Silver Springs Community Centre at 5720 Silver Ridge Dr. NW, Calgary, Alberta on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm
