Born in Calgary and raised on a farm south of the Big Rock by Okotoks, Alberta, Leona rode a horse to Sky Glenn School with her sister Gerti and brother Edwane. She liked being involved with sports and activities such as bowling and curling.
Leona married Cleo on June 20, 1953 in Okotoks, Alberta. After their marriage, they moved to Edmonton and area as Cleo worked as a Tool Push for Imperial Oil. They retired on a farm near Longview before moving to Kelowna, British Columbia and then settling back in Calgary as their final home.
Having fresh baking on hand, Leona always welcomed family and company.
Her last years were spent at a nursing home, confined to a wheel chair, suffering from a broken hip.
Leona is survived by her sons Wayne, Warren and Brian; as well as her granddaughter Brittany Emmanuel. She is predeceased by her sister Gerti Lore, brother Edwane Mounkes, husband Cleo Dease and her parents Bill and Bernice Mounkes.
A Memorial Reception will be held at Foster's Garden Chapel 3220 4 Street N.W. Calgary, Alberta on Sunday, May 13, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Program to begin at 1:30 pm.
