June Lillian Campbell (nee Gerlitz) was born at the General Hospital in 1931 when Calgary’s population was just 84,000 souls. She was the third of four siblings: Irene, Shirley and Dennis. June attended Bridgeland Elementary, Langevin Junior High and Western Canada High School. When she was 16 she met the love of her life, Doug Campbell, at a friend’s birthday party. They were married 2 years later and remained happily married for the next 64 years until Dad’s passing.
June’s main tribulation in life was keeping her sons Bruce, Brent and Brian out of trouble; a task she was mostly successful at. In addition to her sons, she is survived by her grandchildren Austin, Connor and Noah. As well as her daughter-in-law Lana and her sister-in-law Norah and numerous nephews and nieces.
June worked for the Royal Bank from the age of 18 until retirement and was also an avid volunteer. She sang with the St John Lutheran choir from the age of 5 until well into her 80s. She was asked to perform a number of solos and never turned them down no matter how nervous she felt singing them. She spent a lifetime of volunteering at church including a mission with LAMP to the Northwest Territories. She was the president and treasurer at the Mount Pleasant tennis club, the president of Skrastins Outdoor club and the head timekeeper for cross-country skiing at the 1988 Olympics.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Colonel Belcher Retirement Home and Bethany Calgary for all the care and attention they provided in her final years.
Mom’s funeral will be held at Advent Lutheran Church, 11 Scenic Acres Gate N.W., Calgary, Alberta on Wednesday, September 4th at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers the family asks you to make a donation to the Mustard Seed of Calgary at their website https://theseed.ca/
