Judy was born in Benito, Manitoba and raised in Saskatchewan. She married Gus Tataryn in 1963 and they settled in the Toronto, Ontario area. She raised the family and worked in their printing business until they moved to Calgary in 1978.
To celebrate turning 40, she became an adventurer. First with a hot air balloon ride ….. progressing to white water rafting, skydiving and fire walking. Judy always felt proud of these accomplishments. Even on the way to the hospital, she was boasting to the ambulance drivers about her daredevil stunts!
After her retirement from the oil and gas industry, she opened a second-hand store in Vulcan, Alberta. Then after a few more moves, Judy eventually ended up in Cayley, Alberta. For seven years, she helped her son, Robert with his restaurant businesses in Nanton, both waitressing and preparing cabbage rolls. In addition to all the work in the restaurants, she also managed to help Robert raise her granddaughter, Faith. In Cayley, she became known as the cabbage roll and cinnamon bun lady and an unofficial welcome ambassador for newcomers to Cayley.
She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Tataryn (Richard Buors) and grandson Dion. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her heartbroken son, Robert Tataryn and granddaughter Faith Tataryn as well as great-grandsons, Jarred and Jacob. Also survived by her brother, Eldon (Bob) Demchuk and sister, Leanne Demchuk. Her large extended family will mourn her loss including the Demchuk, Shykitka, Tataryn and Filipowich families.
Judy was predeceased by her parents, Eugene and Marina Demchuk; and her beloved grandson, Byron Tataryn in 2021.
