Joy Yit Yee Wong

March 11, 1937 – April 22, 2012

It is with great sadness the family of Joy Yit Yee Wong announces her passing at the Foothills Hospital on Sunday, April 22, 2012. Joy was born in Taishan, Guangdong Province, China. In 1957, she married Robert and came to Canada to begin their lives together. The early years were spent in Golden BC then Vancouver before settling down permanently in Calgary. In Calgary, Joy spent time working in the hotel hospitality industry before retiring from Supply Services Canada. Joy’s greatest passions were cooking specialty ethnic foods for everyone and playing Mahjong. Her home was always welcoming, generous, and she was always happy to receive visitors. She also enjoyed travelling, family outings and time together with family and friends. Joy is survived by her loving husband, Robert See Mine Wong, devoted children Bill (Qun), Garry, Selina (Robert) Coutts, and treasured grandchildren Stephanie, Justin, Jason, Ashlee and Jacqueline. She is also survived by her younger brother, See Kin Mah and numerous nephews and nieces, in Calgary, Hong Kong, Kaiping and Taishan. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at visitation held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, April 27, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.,. A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Dr. John W. S. Kong, presiding Interment will follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Lung Association. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the nurses and doctors from ER and ICU – A Unit at the Foothills Hospital, for the care Joy received.
