John passed away peacefully at the age of 58 years on Saturday, November 07, 2015. John was a proud Calgarian and proud of his Scottish heritage. John worked for 31 years with the City of Calgary in its Roads Division; working up to the role of Division Manager when he retired. John’s second love was to be a paramedic and strove to become one late in life, eventually becoming a Paramedic Supervisor and Lead Trainer for the Drayton Valley Detachment with Associated Ambulance. During this journey John became a firefighter for Rocky View County in Springbank. His infectious sense of humour and drive to learn benefited all that met him. John loved these new experiences in his life and was always willing to learn and assist those in need in the community. John is survived by his Common-Law partner Lori, sons; Timothy and Thomas, sisters; Barbara and Donna-Lee, and various nieces, nephews, and cousins. John is predeceased by his wife Dolores, and parents Donald and Leona Ross. A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations to be made to Paramedics Pay it Forward (www.paramedicpayitforwardaward.org). Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
