John was born and raised in Prelate, Saskatchewan. He was the eldest of four children. John attended grade school in Prelate and was taught by three very special nuns, Sisters Philomena, Gertrude and Helen. John was excused from schooling every Monday to haul water from town to help his mother with the laundry. He was then excused from school full time after Grade 8 and began painting for the school board. He worked many odd jobs to help his family, working in the restaurant and hardware store.
From Prelate, he moved to Medicine Hat to work at the Brick Factory and then onward to Calgary where he began working for the Burns Ranch. His father, the foreman, and mother, lived on the Historic Bow Valley Ranch where their house still remains. It has since been restored into Annie’s Bakery. John had many great stories of his time working at the ranch. From there he began his distinguished career of 46 years with United News Wholesalers of which he was very proud.
He and Marie lived and raised their family in Calgary, for 63 years, where Marie continues to live. John was a great fan of all sports, especially hockey and football. He was a huge supporter of Junior Hockey, especially the Calgary Canucks. Much of his volunteer time was spent organizing and running the 50/50 draws. “Buy now, get lucky later” was his motto. John also volunteered his time within his community for many organizations, especially the Legion Million Dollar Lottery, which was near and dear to him. He was also especially fond of fishing and camping with his family in Saskatchewan as well as harvesting and family time with his sister and brother-in-law on their farm in Rosebud, AB.
Left to mourn Johns’ passing:
His wife of 63 years, Marie (LeMoal) Hazelton;

John was predeceased by his son, Clifford John; his parents Ken and Josephine Hazelton; brothers-in-law; Harold Legge, Charlie LeMoal and Lionel (Theresa) Neil. All of John’s friends, who touched his life, are considered Honourary Pallbearers.
Heartfelt thanks goes to Dr. Ike Muotoh, Nurse Tilda, Ronnie Sagario from Home Care and the employees from the Father LaCombe Care Centre, for their loving care of John. Your kindness and devotion to John will never be forgotten.
