Jody, Mumsie, Nana, Gramma J.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear Jody on December 1, 2022, at the age of 70 years. Following a stroke, Jody passed away peacefully at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, AB with her four children and youngest granddaughter by her side. The family would like to extend their gratitude to all the staff at Foothills Medical Centre for their compassion and care during this time.
Jody was born in Edmonton, AB in 1952 to Hu & Joyce Harries. Growing up, she enjoyed riding horses and moving cattle at their family ranch (Hidden Bar Ranch) east of Edmonton with her dad and siblings. Jody won many trophies at horse shows with her favourite horse, Charlie Brown. Upon graduation from Strathcona High School she spent a year abroad in Vevey, Switzerland studying and skiing. She then completed a BA at the University of Alberta. While working at the Alberta Legislature Jody began raising her four children in Edmonton. In 2006, seeking warmer weather, she moved to Penticton, B.C. where she enjoyed spending time in her back yard with her dog Libby and visiting with her sister, son and friends. Most recently, Jody resided in Calgary, AB where she could be in a central location to see all her children and grandchildren.
Jody was sharp witted, with the mind and ability to articulate any idea with a memory to match. Jody’s passion for gardening and cooking will always be fondly remembered; Jody would often be seen in her garden or on her deck, enjoying the outdoors with a cup of tea in hand and always up for a chat. Jody was a devoted mother and grandmother with the outmost generosity. When welcoming her family and friends to her home you would be sure to be greeted with a cup of tea and cookies while a classic or new recipe was just made or almost ready to be served. On the way out you would be given cookies, likely a jar of jam, and a perfectly packed lunch or dinner for the drive home when visiting from out of town.
Jody is survived by her children, Bill (Jessie), Tom (Jasmine), Lori (Matt) and Annie (Mineki); grandchildren, Owen, Liam, Ellie, Ben, Ruthie, Juniper, and Violet; mother, Joyce; sister, Lori; brothers Bruce and Danny; grand-doggy’s Dilbert, Willow, Angus, and Ginger; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
Jody was predeceased by her father, Hu Harries; brothers Tommy and Jeff; and granddaughter Rayann.
A Celebration of Life will take place in Edmonton in Spring 2023, further details to be announced at a later date. Please sign the online guest book for family to reach out once details have been arranged.
If you wish, in lieu of flowers, donations to either the Calgary or Edmonton food bank can be made in Jody’s memory. Her thoughtfulness and generosity would always shine through during the holidays and in friends and family’s times of need by her gift of hot meals and most memorable – her baked goods.
