Joan was born in Quesnel, British Columbia in 1962 to William Owen and Annie Teresa Monroe. Joan was trained as a paramedic and eventually moved to Calgary with her children in 2000 to train as a Production Accountant.
She was known as the sport mom, loudly cheering at every sporting event her children participated in. She was very proud of her children and supported them fully in all their endeavors. In Calgary she met Rick, the love of her life on April 10, 2003. They became engaged April 10, 2006 and married April 10, 2009. Meeting Rick brought great joy and fulfillment to her. Through this union she gained a large fire family as well that she loved deeply as much as her own. Rick and Joan enjoyed travelling, riding horses and fixing up their farm, creating many fond memories for their grandchildren.
Joan loved the sun, sand and water and took every opportunity to visit the beach with those that she loved, planning one adventure after another. Joan was fierce, loving and loyal, and occasionally a bit stubborn! She wore her heart on her sleeve with her family and would give anything to make them smile. She was known for cracking many inappropriate jokes (often times with accompanying hand gestures) and loved waiting for the response. She loved her husband Rick above all else and each day let him know how much she cared for him.
She is survived and sadly missed by her mother Annie Teresa Monroe (William Owen, 1993); as well as Joan’s loving husband Rick Praud; son Rick Jr.; son Brad Musselman; daughter Brittany Matthews, son-in-law Thomas; grandchildren Linden and Myles; son Kyle Musselman and wife Kristine; grandsons Daxsten and Elliot; son Keith (Marta) Churchill and children; son Barry (Terry) Gartner and children; as well as her sisters Sheila and Gladys, and their sons Cameron and Jonathan Fraser-Monroe; her brother John Monroe and partner Sue Perles; her sister Karen Widney (Dean). She will be missed by her close extended family father-in-law Lloyd Praud and Anita Coates and her beloved animals, Magoo as well as Kenny, Murray, Ellie and her horse Bullet.
Her life ended far too soon and her family will continue to love, support and care for one another as she did; emphasizing, one step in front of the other.
