It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce that Jeanne Leonie Barnes passed away peacefully at Kelowna General Hospital on August 16 2012 at the age of 84. Jeanne will be lovingly remembered by her four children, Vernon (Helene), Lorraine (Charlie), Carolyn (Barry), and Reg, and grandchildren Angela, Jeremy and Teresa (Alec), and her only grandchild, Haley. Jeanne was born in the house on the farm near Carbon Alberta, on February 21, 1928. She was the oldest of 10 children, and spent much of her early life on the farm nurturing them. She married John Anthony Barnes on June 7, 1949 in Calgary, Alberta. Jeanne worked outside the home at various jobs while raising her family until she and John retired to Kelowna. There she became an avid gardener, enjoying the plentiful Okanagan produce. She enjoyed traveling and took many trips exploring North America, the Caribbean, and New Zealand where she visited her sister Teresa. Jeanne loved to paint, make crafts, play the fiddle, and sing in the choir. She enjoyed the many friends and family who came to visit her in her home in Kelowna, where she lived for the past 36 years of her life.
