It is with sorrow that an announcement is made of the death of Mrs. Jean E. Turnbull on Saturday, March 3, 2012. She is the beloved widow of Thomas H. Turnbull and mother of dear deceased daughter, Noreen Kowalchuk. Jean is survived by one sister Audrey Ellis; two nieces and two nephews and their spouses all in Ontario. She was predeceased by her sister Gladys and brother Ray. Jean was born in Lindsay, Ontario on April 5, 1919, the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. Hall. Jean has been a resident of Calgary since 1958. She was on the organizing committee in the establishing of Confederation Park Seniors Centre in 1972. Jean worked as a volunteer prior to going on staff as secretary of the Centre, which position she held for fifteen years before retiring in September, 1987. Since then she has volunteered in various capacities at the Centre. Jean enjoyed her participation in the Jeritol Jivers Rhythm band. She was a long time member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church and was Card Coordinator for many years. Jean will be missed by her many friends in Calgary. A Memorial Service was held at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, 1102 – 23 Avenue NW, Calgary, on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Memorial Fund at St. Giles, or to a charity of one’s choice.
