With very heavy hearts we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and businessman. Larry led a full and wonderful life. His kindness and generosity were legendary and he loved being surrounded by family and friends. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, May 23, 2020 leaving so many wonderful memories for us to cherish.
Larry was born and raised a Calgarian and was always an entrepreneur. After starting several smaller auto dealerships, Larry took the bold step of risking everything to open a new dealership, and Airdrie Chrysler Dodge Jeep opened for business in 1984. Over the next three decades, he built a very successful business and was highly respected throughout the auto industry. He touched many lives, was loved by his employees and was a larger than life presence at the dealer auctions. The family would like to thank the management and staff at Airdrie Chrysler for always keeping their door and hearts open to him even after his retirement.
A great passion of Larry’s was being a Shriner and he is Past Potentate of the Al Azhar Shrine Temple. He will be joining several of his dearest fellow-Shriner friends in Heaven for laughter and cigars.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Arlene; Sister Joyce; his children Wendy Main, Dale Styner (Lori), Brad Styner (Yvette), and Jolayne Leger (Marc). “Pops” was an incredibly caring, compassionate and generous grandfather to Tyler (Angelina), Ashley, Kyle, Brittany, Jessica (Eric), Dustin, Ty, Anjalyne and Dezirae, and four great grandchildren, Kayla, Shaylin, Haydin and Mason. Nephew Monty Carter (Linda) was an important person in his life. Larry was predeceased by his parents, Gladys and Lewis, his sister Sharon and his brother, Grant.
There’s an empty front porch dearly missing the kind soul with the huge smile and cigar who always had a joke or story ready for the next visitor, and a treat for their dog. Goodbye Pops.
A gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate Larry’s life and share our cherished memories.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Fresh Start Recovery Centre (freshstartrecovery.ca) in Larry’s memory.
