Newt Houston passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, November 28, 2011 at the age of 81 years. Newt is remembered with love by his cherished wife of sixty years, Marg. He is also sadly missed by his children Doug and Jan, Linda and Blaine Brehmer, Keith and Corrine, and Sandy and Don VanTetering. His grandchildren and great grandchildren shared a special bond with him, Kara and Reg (Kendall, Hugh), Shannon, Graham and Sarah, Jillian, Logan and Tracy (Lexi), Doug, Kayle, Travis, Lindsey and Steve (Benjamin), Erica and Mike, Joel. Newt is also survived by his sister Pam Wild, brothers Bill and Ivan, and sister-in-law Donna Erdmann as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Morris and Tommy. Newt and Marg founded Houston Trucking in the 1950’s, a company still carried on by their children. With a strong work ethic and passion for machinery, he returned to his farming roots after retiring from the family business. Winters were spent first in Hawaii, later in Arizona, where they have maintained a large number of friends. A Celebration of Newt’s Life will be held at Rock Pointe Church, 255024 Lochend Road NW (Hwy 1A at Lochend Road), Calgary on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 3:00p.m. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to The Mustard Seed, 102 – 11 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2G 0X5 or The Salvation Army, 822, 420 – 9 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2G 0R9.
